What is Tafseer and its Importance

Importance of Tafseer.  TAFSEER is an Arabic word تفسير which is derived from the root ‘fassara. Fassara means to explain, expose, elaborate, evade, or interpret. The word Tafseer is the verbal noun of fassara and Tafseer means the explanation or interpretation of something.

Types of Tafseer

He distinguished five types, which according to him appeared roughly in the following chronological order: attempts to provide a narrative context for the passages, efforts to explain the implications for the conduct of various passages, concern with details of the text, concern with matters of rhetoric, and allegorical.

Difference between Tafseer and Taweel

Tafseer intends to give the meanings of the individual words in a. verse, while Ta’weel gives the meaning of the verse as a whole.
